French and Extended French
Choosing what kind of education to provide for your child is a huge decision. Often these choices centre around language. Many parents want their child to be exposed to French at an early age but are not comfortable with full Immersion and many parents are extremely disappointed that French is not offered until Grade 4 in the public schools. There are also several families who have chosen long term French Immersion but come to Children’s Garden School for Nursery through JK to give their child a foundation in English before moving on.
French is a daily part of our curriculum which enables our students to gain a high level of proficiency at an early age. Even our preschool students receive French instruction twice per week. We use the highly successful A.I.M. program to deliver our French curriculum through stories, symbols, and actions. For those wanting to learn more, we offer the Extended French After School Program. This program is offered once per week for an hour, every Term. Students are encouraged to participate September through June to maximize their benefit. (Please note this program is not included in our tuition.)
Language is intrinsically linked to culture and to reinforce this connection at CGS we set aside one day in our calendar every year to celebrate and experience French culture. During this special day French story tellers, chefs or actors are invited to CGS to perform or facilitate programming with the students en francais. A French Assembly is also hosted by CGS students for parents and extended family every year.
