Music and Visual Arts

Music
Music classes for Early Start through SK are held once per week. Grades1-3 receive music instruction twice per week . An additional Choral class is also added once a week for the senior students. The music curriculum leads students to develop an understanding and appreciation of music, as well as introduce them to the fundamentals of musical concepts through drumming and Orff instruments. In Grade 3 students are introduced to the recorder or the ukulele. Our monthly assemblies, yearly musical, holiday play, and talent show provide regular opportunities for choral performance, whether it is the official choir or classes singing as a group. Our preschool Early Starters often steal the show!

If you are looking to expand your child’s experience with music, private lessons in guitar, voice and piano are available on site, during school hours and after school.

Visual Art
The Art Studio is a place where Children’s Garden students are free to explore and create on their own terms. Classes are once a week. The basic elements of art (form, colour, texture, value etc.) are introduced through open-ended projects and through the exploration of artists’ work throughout history. Exposure to a wide variety of materials gives students a chance to work both two and three dimensionally. Students are given many opportunities to work big and think ‘off the page’ throughout the year. Highlights of the visual arts program at CGS include designing and creating the sets for the holiday play, musical and talent show.
