Wiarton Willie sees his shadow, get ready for six more weeks of winter!
Folklore has it that if a groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day he’ll flee to his burrow, heralding six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, it means spring’s around the corner.
The Early Start children have been exploring shadows all week long in preparation for the big announcement today. The dramatic play centre was transformed into a shadow theatre and the light table was the perfect place to experiment with making different shadow shapes. Groundhog learning extended to puppet making, q-tip painting and practising number recognition. The children especially loved the stories and songs about Groundhogs this week!
