A Very Terry Message from Sara A

The beautiful fall weather is here and the leaves are just starting to change. You know what that means CGS… It’s Terry Time! For those of you that are new to the CGS family this year, celebrating Terry Fox is one of our favorite things about Term 1. We won’t be gathering as a community this year as we normally would, but Sara A still has lots of ideas up her sleeve. Please take a few minutes to check out the information (and video!) below. Find out about our Very Terry Sporty Forty Challenge, how to order your Terry t-shirts and how to get your child started online if they would like to fundraise for Terry. Thank you CGS! And now, let's hear from Sara A...

It is a big year for the Terry Fox Foundation, this September marks the 40th anniversary of Terry’s Marathon of Hope. His message of hope and determination to help others despite all he was going through is especially uplifting during these uncertain times.

This will be the 22nd year we have followed in Terry’s footsteps, and the commitment of our small but mighty school has been outstanding. We are much loved and appreciated by the Terry Fox Foundation. They know us well!

Leading up to our very Terry special morning on Friday, October 9, as I am unable to visit each classroom and speak about Terry, I have recorded a video to share with the children within their classrooms. Be prepared to be impressed by how much they already know and can tell you about our inspirational Terry!

The TFF has kindly sent us an order of this year’s beautiful Terry Fox t-shirts which are available for purchase for your child and other family members and friends. This will be a popular shirt, as it is such a special anniversary. So please put your order in as soon as possible in order for us to fill your requests. Please complete online order form by clicking the link below.

All proceeds from shirt sales are included in our final fundraising total. Children and staff will be encouraged to wear their Terry shirts from this year, or previous years, throughout the week of October 5. Please send your order along with a cheque (please make it out to the Terry Fox Run), cash or e-transfer (to marie@cgsschool.com, no password needed). They will be delivered to the children in a zip lock bag by their classroom teacher. The children are asked to leave them in the packaging until they take them home.

This year, we are asking the children to fundraise online. Pledge sheets will also be available for download but we are are suggesting against this method during this climate because it involves human to human contact and could potentially spread COVID. The children can log on and even create their own webpage to gather their pledges. In order to ensure that their pledges are filtered through CGS, they must work through this portal.  If you have already registered in the past, you can log in. If not, choose to register and the site will take you step by step through the process.

Alternatively, you can choose for people to direct their donations directly to the school fundraising page. However, students setting up their own personalized pages is preferred and will provide the children with a sense of accomplishment as they try to achieve their fundraising goals. The CGS Terry Fox page can be found here.

In honour of this very special milestone, we are calling it our CGS Very Terry Sporty Forty Challenge. Each day during the week leading up to the Friday, the children will be asked to complete 40 challenges such as 40 jumping jacks, 40 lunges or answering 40 Terry Trivia questions throughout the day as a class. Families are welcome to take part in the challenges from home as well. There will be more details to follow about our fun and festive Friday morning for the children to follow.

Thank you for your supporting our school in the fight against cancer and continuing Terry’s legacy! #terryfoxschoolrun @terryfoxfoundation

Sincerely,
Sara A & The CGS Terry Team
