Ahoy STEAM Schooners

The SK engineers certainly made a splash during this week’s STEAM lesson, where they used different materials to construct a simple sailboat. STEAM combines the major core elements of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, providing students with many opportunities to explore, create, and communicate. This week’s experiment was split into two parts: the first, focusing on properties and materials; the second, the gradient of speed, buoyancy, and gravitational force. The children had to collaborate to make a prototype, design an option, and problem solve to discover if their boats would actually sail or sink. The students had a blast both capsizing and sailing their boats!
