CGS Student Government 2024
Each year we welcome all interested students in Grades 1 and older to run for Student Government. We believe that it plays an important role in your child’s education by promoting school involvement and encouraging leadership development. Taking part in the many aspects of campaigning, the election process, and the role of student government can benefit a student both personally and academically, and we’ve seen first hand how our students grow and become leaders as they take their next steps in education.
Every CGS candidate prepares a poster and a speech to promote themselves before voting day. Campaign posters are displayed and each candidate presents their speech, explaining to their schoolmates why they believe they’re best suited for the job. They are also prepared to field questions from the audience. Talk about real-life prep!
Student Government Roles:
- Mayor: The Mayor is the symbolic leader of the student body. They will have a vote on all Student Government decisions and will also be the official liaison between the Student Government and the School Principal.
- Deputy Mayor: The Deputy Mayor will have a vote on all Student Government decisions. They will have the special job of reporting on school and Student Government topics to the Early Start, JK and SK classes.
- Councillor (one for each class): The councillors will have a vote on all Student Government decisions. They will each have the special job of reporting back to their respective classes about School and Student Government topics.
Amongst the many benefits to taking part in Student Government, we believe it fosters the skills that your child will require as they grow into adulthood; creating a sense of responsibility amongst their peers, a sense of community throughout the school, and opportunities for leadership development as members work with their peers to communicate and negotiate to achieve common goals.
Thank You and Congratulations to all the candidates – whether you won the vote or not. You each demonstrated such courage, determination, independence, and strength of character as you prepared your campaign.
