Composting Classrooms

Grades 1 – 4 gathered for a special Team Meeting on Monday morning. This month we are learning about Stewardship and the importance of taking care of different things in our lives. With Earth Day approaching, the students discussed the importance of taking care of our environment. The children talked about reducing and reusing as well as how fast landfills are growing. The students joined together to commit to a greater effort in recycling and composting at CGS. The students discussed the various materials that can by recycled, composted, and what specifically goes in the trash. Five volunteers were asked to talk about the items in their snack bag and how trash could be reduced with decisions like tupperware, and which bin the items in their snack bag would be disposed in. Each class was equipped with their own compost bin and an info recycling sign for their recycle bin. Now, at the end of every day the Grade 2/3 class collects the compost bags from the upstairs classrooms to bring to the big bin in the kitchen and the Grade 4’s collect the downstairs bags. The students have been breaking bad disposal habits all week and doing a spectacular job at separating their materials.

Way to go team!
