CGS has been highly successful at keeping our school community safe during the pandemic. The measures listed below have all ensured a healthy learning and working environment for staff and students. Our goal is to keep our students in school, connected and happy. In the event we are directed by the Government of Ontario to close the school, our CGS Spirit at Home remote learning program takes effect within 24 hours.
Daily wellness screenings, to be completed before entering the building, are required for all staff and students.
Face masks are required for all staff and students, including our preschool students. Preschool teachers are also required to wear a face shield or goggles in addition to their masks. Parents must also wear masks at all times while on school property.
FACILITIES CLEANING & SANITIZING
Dedicated cleaning staff is on duty every day, all day, to ensure that high touch surfaces and bathrooms are cleaned frequently throughout the day.
Routine disinfecting of the playground and indoor spaces is done with an electrostatic sprayer (Victory VP200ES). The electrostatic charge ensures that all surfaces are coated evenly and thoroughly with a Health Canada recommended disinfectant.
Students and staff have been trained in proper handwashing techniques. Frequent hand washing is mandatory.
DEDICATED WELLNESS ROOM
If a child becomes unwell at school, parents are called immediately, and the child is escorted to our Wellness Room while they wait to be picked up. Any staff that comes into contact with a sick child must wear the appropriate PPE.
All classrooms are equipped with commercial grade HEPA air filters.
VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL
Parents are currently not permitted in the school building. Any essential visitors are required to complete our daily wellness screening.
Classrooms are set up to allow for physical distancing. Where appropriate physical distancing cannot be achieved, additional learning spaces have been added. Classes take place in outdoor learning spaces as much as possible.
Children are cohorted with their classroom teacher/s and one specialty teacher. There is minimal crossover of staff with students outside of their cohort indoors.
Grades/Cohorts are also dropped off and picked up through different entrances/exits at staggered times to prevent cohorts from mixing. All daily movements of cohorts throughout the school and outdoors are scheduled to avoid the mixing of cohorts.
All staff is equipped with the necessary tools to teach effectively from home in the event that a quick pivot to remote learning is required. All students are provided with at-home learning kits, for Grade 1-4 this includes a dedicated iPad and keyboard. Remote learning plans are also available to students absent for more than 2-3 days.
