Harmony of Growth: Nurturing Young Minds Through Drama, Music, and Mind Up
It has been heartening to witness the progression of incorporating Drama, Music, and Mind Up (Mindfulness through Education) into our CGS curriculums and how they have had such a powerful transformative impact on our students. These educational pillars are not just lessons in our school, they are gateways to fostering confidence, creativity, discipline, and emotional resilience. CGS is so lucky to have our amazing resident teacher Naomi Peltz who gifts all our classes with all three subjects.
In our Drama classes, the spotlight isn’t just on the stage. It’s on cultivating a sense of self-assurance and unleashing the boundless power of creativity. Students embark on a journey of self-discovery, learning the art of body accountability, spatial awareness, and honing presentation and public speaking skills. Through the dramatic arts, our young CGS shining stars not only express themselves but also learn the invaluable skills that will resonate throughout their lives.
Music, the universal language that transcends boundaries, finds its home in our classrooms. In music class with Naomi, she invites all our students to gain a deep love and respect for music, encouraging diverse thinking skills and fostering a sense of discipline. Through the use of instruments, body percussion, and voice, our students gain a holistic understanding of how music and the arts intertwine with daily life. Mastering a musical instrument not only builds confidence but fortifies performance skills, creating a harmonious symphony of growth for each of our aspiring young Beethoven’s.
Mindfulness is more than a buzzword in the CGS halls. It’s a life skill we’re committed to instilling in our students through our Mind-Up program. In each class, we explore a different technique to navigate the whirlwind of overwhelming emotions and regain a sense of calm. From exercises like “mindful doodling” to a “senses scavenger hunt” and “mind-mapping,” our students are equipped with a toolkit of skills to regulate their bodies, emotions and minds. This personal whirlwind experience affectionately known as our “monkey-doodly” brain training, empowers our students to face life’s challenges with resilience and grace.
It’s evident that Naomi has brought Drama, Music, and Mind-Up into our classrooms not merely as subjects on our timetable and we are so thankful for her education share. These subjects are essential threads woven into the vibrant tapestry of our young ever growing CGS students minds. Through these disciplines, we are nurturing confident performers, passionate musicians, and resilient individuals equipped with the tools to navigate the depths and vast range of their emotions.
