The Grade 2’s have been having a lot of fun with fractions in their math unit this week. They’ve been breaking down and composing fractions through art…and candy! Watercolour flowers were used for creating fractions of a whole and M and M’s were used to create fractions from a group. The children had to apply a fraction for each colour group within their allotment of M and M’s. After they answered their first question, they were allowed to eat a few candies to create a new set of fractions in their grouping! Finally, they compared their fractions by shading in fraction circles.
