Greetings from Early Start

We have a new morning routine here in Early Start! The children are practicing greeting one another. Each morning the children choose the way they would like to be greeted by pointing to pictures on the door before their entry into the classroom. The options are a hug, handshake, high five, fist bump or a wave. Every day there is a new designated greeter to help greet each friend and invite them into our class. This tradition not only helps make the children feel more welcome and give them a sense of belonging in our classroom community, but also gives them ownership over their bodies and sets a positive tone for the daily activities ahead. Study’s show that greeting students at the door can increase positive behaviour and gives children the social and emotional support that helps them feel invested in their learning.
