Heart Smart with Dr. Doug
A big, heartfelt thank you to Dr. Doug, cardiologist and JK daddy. Doug kindly offered to show the JK class around his clinic and tell them what it’s like to be a heart doctor. There were even a few siblings in attendance, including one in Grade 11 who is very interested in pursuing a career in medicine. We had a few technical glitches with the visit, but we got up and running and the children really enjoyed visiting the cardiology clinic. A highlight was seeing and hearing Dr. Doug’s heartbeat on an ultrasound machine! The children prepared some thoughtful questions in advance…
Why did you want to become a doctor? And why did you choose Cardiology? ~ DylanHow do you fix and look at hearts? ~ AriannaDo you ever get the chance to work with my daddy? He works at the same hospital. Does it hurt when you have an ultrasound on your heart? ~ LeilaHow big is your heart? ~ Flora
Thank you so much for sharing your time with the children Dr. Doug and for answering all their questions so well. Flora told her family before the field trip to the clinic that your heart has love in it. We agree! Spoiler alert: the JK’s will be learning all about how to write a thank you card/letter next week.
