Heraldry in Medieval Times

In our Medieval Times unit in Grade 4 we recently learned about heraldry. Heraldry was a system of symbols that gave information about a noble family. Knights used their coat of arms on their clothing, their shields, and even on their horses. They did this so that they could tell each other apart during battle. Every symbol or colour on a coat of arms represented something about the knight. In our class, we made our very own coat of arms with symbols and colours that meant something to us. Then we coloured it in, cut in out and started writing about it. In my coat of arms I chose several symbols. My favourites are the flaming heart which means strong affection and the dragon which means defending and protecting. It was a fun project and I can’t wait to learn more about Medieval Times!
