I am Rosa Parks

February is Black History Month and there have already been some great learning opportunities at school. This week in Early Start, the children learned about Martin Luther King Jr. They listened to “I am Martin Luther King Jr.” by Brad Meltzer. As a class, the children discussed their individual dreams for the future and then completed a worksheet, writing about Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream and their own dream. Our Early Starts took time to think of thoughtful dreams for the future such as; “ to be kind” “to share” “no fighting” and “for friends to play together”. The Early Starts also had an extra special Friday morning as they continued their learning with Marie in the library. She read them another great title by Brad Meltzer from his Ordinary People Change the World series called, ‘I am Rosa Parks’, all about the American civil rights activist.
