Ice Cream Thursdays begin!

Junior Kindergarten

Our JK class is getting ready for Grandparents day at CGS! The students created these stunning, Yayoi Kusama inspired flower pieces using pastels and watercolour. Art teacher Carrie encouraged the class to avoid the darker colours for their creations and the result was these vibrant pieces full of life and movement!

Senior Kindergarten

Our SK class are learning all about adjectives! The students learned that adjectives are words that help describe a noun. To put their new knowledge to use, they each chose their favourite superhero and thought of some adjectives that best described their superhero. They then drew a picture of their superhero and then wrote out the descriptive adjectives they chose.

Grade 1

The grade 1’s presented their social studies project to the class this week. The students each made dioramas of their community. During their presentations they talked about the elements included in their diorama and why they chose those particular elements. After their presentation they each answered questions that their classmates had for them. The students learned so much about each other’s community and background!

Brickworks Virtual Field Trip

This week the Grades 1-4 students attended a virtual field trip called Nature in the City, through Evergreen Brickworks. This would typically be an in person trip but virtual was the next best thing. Students investigated various habitats in the city and they took part in an interactive exploration where they were given clues to see if they could guess the animal. As part of the field trip, everyone went outside for 10 minutes to see what types of animals we could spot in our school yard and reported back to the facilitators. The field trip wrapped up with each student sharing something they are grateful for.

Ice Cream Thursday

CGS enjoyed their very first Ice Cream Thursday event today. This initiative was the brain child of our amazing CGS Student Government in order to build school spirit and to raise money for a good cause. We are so excited to announce that Ice Cream Thursday has raised a current total of $4450.00 for the children of Ukraine with donations still coming in! Our Student Government will be announcing their donation organization very soon. Participating students donated amount of their own choosing to support the cause. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their ice cream on a beautiful, sun-shiny day! Ice Cream Thursday will be continuing throughout the month of May.
