In Our Classrooms

We are working and playing hard at CGS! Our Grade 2-4 students have started learning about air and water during their science classes. They started the unit by brainstorming what they already know about air and water as well as what they would like to learn. We can’t wait to see what they find out!

Early Start

Our Early Start learners have been so busy! They are celebrating the fall season by working with apples. Our youngest scientists did a “Rotting Apples” experiment this week. They placed apples in four different cups containing oil, water, vinegar and air. The children made their predictions about which apples would turn the most and least brown. The children observed the apples throughout the week. They observed the different textures, scents, sizes and colours of the apples. The apple in air started to shrivel and turned hard. The other apples darkened in colour and turned softer. The apple in vinegar turned the darkest. The water and vinegar levels started to decrease while the oil remained the same!

The Early Start Class also read the book “10 Apples Up on Top” and did a craft based on the book.
