In the classrooms

Early Start

The Early Start classes read the story ‘Clark the Shark’ this week. Clark does some crazy antics in his classroom and the hilarious story does a fantastic job of helping children learn how to manage themselves in their own classroom. As part of their reading comprehension, each student chose to write about the best classroom behaviour using an example from the book.

Junior Kindergarten

Our JK class did a unit on healthy eating. As part of their learning they created a table mat place setting. They learned about healthy foods that could go on their plate and even chose their own name for a restaurant!

Senior Kindergarten

The SK class has been busy this week learning about life cycles. They have learned that a life cycle is the series of stages a living thing goes through during its life. All plants and animals go through life cycles. The students have bean seeds hanging in their window so that they can follow the life cycle of a plant from seed. They also studied and documented the life cycle of a mushroom!

Grade 1

The Grade 1 class studied hazardous materials and their symbols during health class this week! The students learned to recognize what the symbols for some of our common hazardous materials look like (corrosive, flammable, explosive and poisonous) and that some items we use daily while helpful to our daily lives, also must be disposed of, stored, and handled with care. They also learned that items can include more than one hazard. After the lesson, the students returned home to find other items around their home and shared them with the rest of the class!
The grade 1’s have also been learning all about time! After beginning their unit, they are now experts in telling time to the hour, half hour, and the difference between am and pm. Way to go Grade 1’s!

Grade 4

We were finally able to award our Grade 4 Public Speaking winner in person this week. Congratulations on such an interesting, informative and well delivered speech!
