Learning About Indigenous Culture

The Early Starts began the week by learning all about Indigenous people’s culture, history and languages. First, we listened to a story called “An Inuksuk Means Welcome”, which describes the symbolic landmark left by different peoples of the Arctic to either welcome, give direction or express happiness. The children worked on their reading comprehension activity, answering questions and drawing their very own Inuksuks! We also had fun recreating a page from the story with watercolours and making dreamcatchers. The class continued to explore more stories about Indigenous culture during circle time and came up with brilliant ideas if the stories were to go on. We’re looking forward to continuing this unit next week!
