Marshmallow Measurements

The Grade 1 class is very excited to have started their unit on measurement! This week they started off learning about non-standard units of measurement. The children have had a lot of fun measuring different items in the classroom using things like paper clips, tiles and even marshmallows! They also learned that in order to take an accurate non-standard measurement, you need to choose items of the same size and they need to be neatly lined up without overlaps or gaps. Next on the agenda will be estimating and measuring length using standard units. As tricky as it was, the children resisted eating the marshmallows. We did, however, set some aside for them to enjoy at snack after all of their hard work!
