Mr. Rhind Remembers
On Tuesday, November 6th, we had the incredible honour of welcoming Mr. Jack Rhind to CGS for Veterans’ Week. Our Student Government did an amazing job introducing Mr. Rhind to the stage. He is a 98 year-old WWII Veteran who served as a Lieutenant with the artillery in Italy. Mr. Rhind captivated us all by sharing his experiences in the Second World War and even read some pages from his diary, which he penned while in action. He brought with him a miniature model of one of the four guns his men used in the battle of Monte Cassino to show us and proudly wore his medals. Mr. Rhind was a delight to listen to and his wonderful sense of humour had us laughing along and participating in his presentation. The Senior Choir sang “One Tin Soldier” for Mr. Rhind and the Grade 2/3 class presented him with a Peace Wreath that they had made together, sharing on it what peace means to them. It was an incredibly moving and memorable event for our CGS students, staff and Mr. Rhind, a visit we shall never forget!
