R + Clinic Training for Meagan and Michelle

After using the Remediation Plus program for 16 years as the main method of teaching phonics for students JK and up at CGS, Marie decided to further invest in the program back in January 2018. At that time, Jordan and Paula were chosen to receive the training to qualify them as clinicians in in-depth reading assessment and remediation, using the R+ program. Meagan and Michelle L received their training this week. It was a pleasure to have Jo-Anne Gross, Founder of Remediation Plus, back at the school. Michelle and Meagan spent a very intense three days immersed in the science of reading and all the ways that children learn. They received explicit training on how to effectively teach lessons and conduct detailed assessments using various modalities including magnets, coloured sticky notes, rice trays and blending balls. These techniques reach students through auditory, visual, kinesthetic and tactile means, building bridges for children who need additional strategies to learn to read.

It is very important to note that this training is above and beyond what is required to address the needs of most children as they learn to read. It is designed to help those children that need more support and time to become competent readers. This additional teaching qualification has enabled CGS to provide even more solutions for children learning to read. Your teacher will let you know if this is something you may want to consider for your child. The Clinic is open to students outside of CGS as well and could be particularly helpful to those children not being adequately served in the public system. If you have friends concerned about the reading strategies at their schools, please pass on the information. Learn more about CGS R + Clinic hours here.
