Science Gets Sticky

What a sticky mess! The Grade 2/3’d did their first live online experiment on Thursday. They were testing the relative physical reactions when Mentos are added to Diet Coke. The sugar in the candy triggers the production of more carbon dioxide in the soda, leading to more bubbles. Hypothesis? Big explosion! The soda works best when it’s warm (ie you get the biggest reaction) and the more Mentos you can get in the bottle at one time the bigger the explosion gets. The children worked through a scientific method worksheet and a lot of their hypotheses were correct, including the prediction that Lisa would get covered in Diet Coke. We hope the clean up wasn’t too bad Lisa!
