It has been a lively and colourful 5 days at CGS for our Annual Spirit Week! This year we celebrated our school spirit “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”! We showed our true colours, partied in our schoolhouses, built up our spirit through teamwork and mindfulness activities, and found our pots of golden goodies at the end of the rainbow! We took our united spirit and collectively gathered school supplies from many of our CGS families to donate to TNO-The Neighbourhood Organization, which supports newcomer families and children from one of our neighbouring communities in Thorncliffe Park. Thank you to all the families who donated, we are truly grateful for your support.
For Day one and two of spirit week all our students at CGS expressed their true colours and created a CGS Rainbow full of their hopes, dreams and wishes!
We are so lucky we didn’t sleep through Day 3 of our Somewhere over the Rainbow Spirit Week! All of our CGS students were dreaming beyond the clouds in their PJS! Pajama Day was full of fun onesies, monster slippers, and of course our favourite stuffies. Students played a fun team building “get to know you” game with coloured SMARTIES as their treat for every question asked. Making connections and meaningful friendships helps build our CGS community and we love sharing our big dreams with friends! Day 3 of spirit week was also the first day of our 3-Day Colourful School Supplies Drive! Our donation boxes were overflowing with supplies and our CGS hearts were overflowing with gratitude.
CGS Spirit Week day 4 was BEACH DAY! The school was transformed into a summertime beach Oasis! Students were invited to dress in summer inspired outfits to show their spirit! Students spent time building snow castles, playing beach volleyball and even enjoyed a surprise cold treat! Within our classrooms the students took turns passing, rolling, or throwing a class beach ball. The ball had fun movement ideas written all over it. When they caught the beach ball, they were invited to do whichever activity their thumb landed on. This was a great game to incorporate into all of our class movement breaks. We love seeing the spirit throughout the school!
School Pride for Day 5! Our last day of spirit was all about CGS school pride! Students wore either our CGS school colours of light green, navy blue and white, or their house colours of red, green, blue and yellow! This day was full of CGS school tattoos, a special spirit cafe during lunch, a dress the teacher contest and fashion show, school wide spirit games, and some delicious rainbow fruit kabobs!
Thank you to all the students, staff, teachers and families of our CGS Community for showing your spirit all week and for “sharing and spreading the spirit” by participating in the colourful school supplies drive. A huge thank you goes out to Sara A and Holly Beth for organizing a fun packed week of overflowing CGS spirit. We hope everyone will continue to make the world a little bit more colourful every day!
