The Best Part of Giving…
The Best Part of Giving is the Feeling You Get in Return
Even though it’s “that time of year” also known as the holiday giving season, we like to instill a sense of giving back to our community all-year round at CGS. Throughout the school year, we take part in many meaningful community outreach projects.
Where do the results of some of our efforts go?
Parents and kids appreciate our CGS uniform, yet each month, we offer the opportunity to take a break from it and wear our own choice of clothing for the day. Each child donates a toonie, while earning the chance to express their individuality through a non-uniform dress day. This term, $500 of our Toonie Free Dress fund was donated to the Sleep Well Program. It’s part of the Furniture Bank, where their mission is to end furniture poverty, one family at a time. The Sleep Well Program’s aim is to provide every child with the comfort and security of a cozy bed, and even a pillow and stuffy, too!
Another CGS Toonie Free Dress donation went toward the purchase of cooler bags for “Club Sandwich,” the local organization of volunteers who prepare sandwiches for shelters, missions and food banks in the east end of Toronto. Watch here to learn more about them.
And just this morning, we gathered with Zandée and our CGS Student Government to sort and pack boxes of food that our CGS community of families so generously donated to St. Ann’s Food Bank. Colette and the folks at St. Ann’s were so appreciative of the efforts Zandée and her CGS Student Government team made to help fight hunger in our own city.
We’re building a greater sense of community and giving within our school and our community of friends and neighbours.
Thank you for the role you played in these impactful efforts, CGS!
