The Book Bank Still Needs Our Help
For the past few years, The Principal’s Club has supported the Children’s Book Bank. If you’ve never heard of it, it is a wonderful facility in downtown Toronto that provides free books to children who otherwise wouldn’t have access to books of their own. It is also a lovely space where children can go to browse for books and attend story time sessions with the staff. The Club will sorely miss making their trip to the Book Bank this year. Delivering books and reading in the big comfortable chairs and sunny window seats was always a spring highlight for the club.
Despite having to keep their busy storefront closed due to COVID 19, The Children’s Book Bank is continuing to provide books to children and families in need. The Principal’s Club usually holds its Book Drive in Term 3 and we would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to donate.
In case you’re wondering how book donations can continue while COVID measures are in place, the Book Bank staff and volunteers are working hard to make sure books still get into the hands of children that need them most. Donated books are sanitized, packed up, and organized by age into new plastic bags to be delivered to some of Toronto’s food banks and other social service agencies to distribute. Families receive bags of age-appropriate books when they pick up food or access health or educational services. Almost 4,500 books have found their way to children since our closure on March 14.
