This Little Light of Mine
Our Early Start/Preschoolers experienced a playful and innovative approach to learning with @toctoc_knock today. Light and shadow play naturally integrates aspects of science, technology, engineering, art, and math – STEAM for holistic learning. Hands-on exploration is key to early education and allows the learning stay with us…and to help spark new ideas that deepen cognitive and executive functioning.
We experienced the transformation of the familiar space of our CGS gym into an interactive environment using light, darkness, paint, projectors, digital tools, glow tape and transparencies. Using their fine motor skills and hand muscles, our Preschoolers started the event by creating their marks with glow paint.
Light and Shadow Play Encourages Creativity: Children were able to manipulate light and objects to create shapes, and encourage their imaginative thinking.
Light and Shadow Play Develops Problem-Solving Skills: Changing the angles, distances, or intensities teaches children how to think critically and arrive at a solution.
Light and shadow play fosters emotional development, too. Our CGS gym transformed into a magical space of joy and curiosity; a calming environment and soothing space for all the Preschool students to wander, and wonder in.
Light and Shadow Play Develops Spatial Awareness: Understanding the relationship between light, objects, and shadows sharpens spatial reasoning.
Light and Shadow Play Promotes Teamwork: Group activities involving light and shadow encourage teamwork and communication.
Thank you to our CGS Parents Association who sponsored the Light and Shadow Art Event, and welcoming CGS Art Educator Marianna to work with our youngest students.
