Embracing Wellness

In the hustle and bustle of academic life, it’s easy to overlook the importance of mental health and well-being. Recognizing this, CGS dedicates an entire day each term to prioritize the mental well-being of our students and staff. The result? A resounding success that leaves a lasting impact on the entire school community.

All of our students were excited that this day would be different from their usual routine, with no traditional academics on the agenda. Instead, a carefully curated schedule of activities aimed at promoting relaxation, mindfulness, and self-expression.

One of the highlights of the day was the yoga and mindfulness with Mai. Yoga sessions provided physical and mental relaxation, and our students highly benefit from these sessions. Students gathered in the gym, where they engaged in guided meditation, certain relaxing yoga poses individually and in partners, along with some creation of peace rocks and relaxing rainbow breathing exercises. The serene atmosphere created a sense of calm, allowing everyone to carry on through their day with a clear and focused mind.

Throughout the day, various workshops and activities were organized in each classroom to cater to different interests and preferences. Art and musical therapy allowed students to express themselves creatively. Our SK class was visited by one of their Dads for a mindfulness workshop where he guided them through some youth meditations and breathing exercises. Other classes participated in different free movement dance like workshops, creating expressive art pieces and some classes relished in a rewarding time of comfort snacks while watching movies geared toward regulating our emotions.

All of the activities throughout the day equipped students with valuable techniques to manage stress and anxiety. Students also had many discussions giving them the opportunity to engage in open conversations about mental health, and fostering a supportive and understanding community.

As our Mental Health and Wellness Day came to a close, a sense of calmness and relaxation lingered in the air. The success of the impact that this day has on our students was clear not only in the smiles on the faces of students and of all our staff but also in the energy shift in the overall atmosphere of the school.By acknowledging and addressing the importance of mental health, we are creating a foundation for a happier, healthier, and more resilient school environment.
