A Rose for The Lady

The Grade 4 class is preparing for their next Social Studies topic – Medieval Society! We were lucky enough to visit Medieval Times for a field trip last week! The children were excited to dress up and attend the trip in character. Briony and Armaan went as courageous knights, and Gavin chose to dress up as a mighty king. When we arrived, we toured the famous Medieval dungeon. This is where we saw the various torture devices that were used. The children were shocked by the forms of punishment used in that time period. We met one of the stars of the show – Guinevere the falcon – with her trainer. Guinevere is in her twenties, and has been performing in the Medieval Times show for thirteen years. As we made our way into the theatre, the students were bursting with excitement! We sat in the blue section, and were looking forward to cheering on our Blue Knight. The entertainment started with the knights performing mini skits about chivalry, and quizzes for the students.

A Knight’s Code of Chivalry ~

A knight is sworn to valor.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.

We were served our meals of tasty garlic bread, roasted chicken, potatoes and corn on the cob, with a giant chocolate chip cookie for dessert. The catch was that we could ONLY use our hands to eat! Utensils were NOT provided! As we ate, the tournament began. We were a small group, but we did our best and loudest cheering for the Blue Knight! Briony cheered so loud she received the very first flower from our knight and she couldn’t have been any happier! Sadly, after a well fought battle, our knight was not the winner of the tournament. He did try his best though! After the tournament, we made our way to the gift shop where the students all purchased a souvenir to mark their visit to Medieval Times. A fantastic time was had by all, and it is a trip that we will never forget! A big thank you goes out to Marie for making this trip a possibility, and to Ange for accompanying the Grade 4 class.
