Time to Hibernate

The Early Starts are getting ready for winter. In preparation for the season we are learning all about hibernation, migration and adaptation. We have been listening to stories, watching videos and having class discussions about what happens to our furry Canadian wildlife in the winter. The dramatic play centre has even been turned into a hibernation campground! The children are enjoying hiding in the bear cave and making food on the campfire. We are also talking about the sequencing of stories and learning that each story has a beginning, middle and end as well as learning how to categorize and sort animals into a graph. The children really enjoyed deciding which category each animal fit into. We practiced seriation with sizing bears small to big. Painting bear caves and Canada Geese were a great hit! We look forward to learning more about this fascinating topic.
